Population Action International joins the world on International Youth Day in recognizing that young people are critical partners in promoting development, progress, and hope. The world’s largest generation of young minds are overcoming challenges and improving lives in their communities. PAI’s Young People’s Working Group is working with youth in the U.S. through University Study Tours, and around the world through providing international advocacy subgrants to mobilize support for their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

During the last month, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other U.S. policymakers’ statements and legislative provisions have highlighted the links between population, gender, and climate change. Clinton said that it is “odd to talk about climate change and what we must do to stop and prevent the ill effects without talking about population and family planning.”
Population Action International’s Climate Change Initiative and promotes the inclusion of population, reproductive health, and family planning in policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help vulnerable communities adapt to climate change. Click here to see our work.
On July 8-10, 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya, Population Action International convened a diverse group of pan-African civil society advocates for a capacity building workshop aimed at mobilizing support and commitment for the integration of reproductive health and HIV/AIDS policies, programs, services and supplies as supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Read about it here.
In mid-July, PAI’s film The Silent Partner enjoyed a screening at a regional meeting of women physicians in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where PAI also presented on the Global Fund RH/HIV Integration Initiative. The meeting was hosted by the Medical Women’s Association of Tanzania (MEWATA), a strong advocate for women’s health within the country. The post-screening conversation was personal for most present: as professional women with economic means, their families and friends are as affected by HIV and harmful gender norms as the women portrayed in The Silent Partner.
