In spite of all of the uncertainty leading up to the Copenhagen climate talks in December, one thing is clear: Adaptation needs are the most urgent in the least developed countries. PAI’s Clive Mutunga discusses the impacts of climate change on the world’s most vulnerable populations, many of whom will experience or are already experiencing drought, floods, extreme weather, changing disease vectors, and declining agricultural production. Karen Hardee, PAI’s Vice President for Research, participated in the Africa Population and Health Research Center’s annual International Population Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco in October. Karen highlights the challenges raised by participants of addressing population issues on the continent in the midst of many other pressing issues, including the current economic downturn and climate change.
