Integration of Sexual and Reproductive Health into the HIV/AIDS and Malaria Component Proposals

PAI participated in an “Advocacy Summit on Global Fund Round 7: Integration of Sexual and Reproductive Health into the HIV/AIDS and Malaria Component Proposals” in Geneva, Switzerland, 4-6 December 2006.

The Summit was conceived and implemented through the efforts of a Steering Group comprised of the Global AIDS Alliance (GAA), Interact Worldwide, International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance), International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and Population Action International (PAI).

The Summit objectives were to increase the level of funding, within the Global Fund’s Round 7, of integrated SRH-HIV/AIDS and integrated SRH-Malaria component proposals, through a robust 1-2 year joint advocacy strategy and high-quality documentation and tools. Of particular interest to PAI was the role of reproductive health supplies in achieving any goals around integration. Additionally, some of PAI's key regional partners, including ASTRA, LACWHN, and APA, were represented at the Summit.

The attached paper (download PDF), prepared by Clare Dickinson at the consulting firm HASP, “briefly explores the evidence base for integration, identifies the enabling environment at global and national levels and discusses the opportunities and challenges for supporting integration by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis.”

With less than ten years left until 2015, this initiative is about identifying future directions, recruiting new allies, and recognizing the critical role of young people in the next decade of efforts to both fulfil the commitments made at ICPD and bring real change to people's lives.
