PAI Extends Condolences
Washington, D.C. - September 12, 2001Population Action International (PAI) today issued the following statement from Amy Coen, President of the organization.
"We at Population Action International extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by Tuesday's horrific and senseless tragedy. As a nonprofit organization that advocates for humanitarian efforts that expand access to reproductive health services, education and economic opportunities for all, we are truly saddened by this tremendous loss of life.
"This tragedy serves as a call to all of us who work to improve the lives of people across the globe: We must redouble our efforts. We must work even harder to build opportunity -and hope -for all people.
"PAI also urges all Americans and people of good will - especially those charged with the conduct of U.S. foreign policy - to ensure that this tragedy is not taken as an opportunity to scapegoat or vilify any particular group of people on the basis of their ethnic, religious, national, or other characteristics."
Population Action International (PAI) works to improve individual well-being and preserve global resources by mobilizing political and financial support for population, family planning and reproductive health policies and programs.
