Every Minute of Every Day, 40 Women Put Their Lives At Risk

Every year, 21 million women risk their lives by having an unsafe abortion. That means that every minute of every day, 40 more women are in danger.

Nearly all unsafe abortions—98 percent—occur in developing countries, and more than 47,000 women die needlessly each year.

These women are more than just numbers. They have talents, jobs, and friends and families that care about them. This video from Ipas looks beyond statistics to reveal the individual reasons women seek unsafe abortions, and what is needed to make safe, legal abortion more available and save lives. By advocating for better policies, less stigma, and better access to family planning, we can help make sure more women around the world survive and thrive.
