We Could Save 47,000 Lives Every Year If We Fix This Problem

Each year, nearly 22 million unsafe abortions take place worldwide, and every 11 minutes, a woman dies from an unsafe abortion.

Depressing? Absolutely. Inevitable? Not at all.

This new video from Marie Stopes International (MSI) not only explains the risks a woman takes when she seeks an unsafe abortion, but outlines simple steps to reduce the need for unsafe abortion around the world. The good news? We already know what works. Increasing women’s access to birth control, making sure safe abortions are available in countries where abortion is legal, and training providers to treat complications from unsafe abortion are just a few of the ways we can help ensure no woman has to risk her life to end an unwanted pregnancy.

At its core, ending unsafe abortion is about making sure women matter. Check out MSI’s new campaign to learn more.
