Empty Handed Wins Best Film Award
Empty Handed has been awarded Best Film in the Population Institute Media Awards. The Awards are designed to promote broader media coverage of population and development issues. The film illustrates the challenges and obstacles that are faced by women in Uganda as they try to access family planning services.

Empty Handed tells the story of women’s lack of access to reproductive health supplies in sub-Saharan Africa, and its impact on their lives. It documents the challenges at each level of the supply chain and identifies key areas for improvement. The film aims to provoke discussion and mobilize support for reproductive health supplies.

Empty Handed is dedicated to the memory of Terri L. Bartlett, our indefatigable colleague whose advocacy for women’s reproductive health and rights was her life’s work and passion. Terri spearheaded PAI’s work to increase political and financial support for contraceptives globally, always keeping women at the center of our collective advocacy.
