Help Us Give Back to Moms on #GivingTuesday

Imagine getting the news that your sister, daughter or best friend died in childbirth—a birth she wanted and planned for. It might sound like something out of the past, but, sadly, this is still the reality for thousands of women around the world. In fact, every two minutes, a woman dies from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. That’s almost 800 moms daily. And that’s not even the saddest part.

The saddest part is that these deaths are preventable.

Medications like oxytocin, misoprostol and magnesium sulfate save lives by stopping two of the leading causes of maternal mortality—post-partum hemorrhage (uncontrollable bleeding) and eclampsia (acute high blood pressure). For example, with access to quality oxytocin and misoprostol, we could save at least 1.4 million lives over a ten-year period.

At less than $1 a dose, these drugs could make the difference between a child never knowing her mother or a mother living to raise and love that child. But in many places, policy and logistical barriers stand in the way of these effective, safe and proven medicines getting to women in need.

At PAI, we work to get these life-saving drugs into the hands of women who need them most. But we need help. We need you to help us give back to moms around the world.

Tuesday, December 2 is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back and celebrating generosity. One week from today, #GivingTuesday will kick off the holiday shopping season with a spirit of collaborative investment in communities, organizations and causes.

At PAI, we are launching a one-day #GivingTuesday campaign to raise $5,000 to get mothers the life-saving drugs they need. By giving to PAI next Tuesday, you are helping us give back to moms around the world so they can give to their children for years to come. Imagine how many lives we could save in just one day.
